Screens |
An ugly feature such as a fuel tank or panel fence can be disguised in the garden with a hedge or living fence, while on the larger scale a building or slurry pit etc. can be hidden by a taller screen. |
Windbreaks |
Balsam poplar has always been the first choice as a windbreak for orchards and hopyards, as the fluttering of the leaves dissipates the energy of the wind. The tree's small root system means little competition with the crop or risk of damage to buildings or roadways. |
Shelterbelts |
A line or small group of poplars provide excellent shelter for both humans and game, as well as being pleasant to look at. We have supplied many golf courses over the years as the trees' relatively light canopy and lack of dense shading make them very suitable for this purpose. |
Renewable Energy Source |
Why not coppice poplars? Grow for eight to ten years, then harvest in strips to keep your woodburning stove supplied. If you plant the right area, when you get to the end, the first trees will be ready for harvesting a second time, and so on. |
